Financial Aid Eligibility

Expand All Headings | Collapse All Headings

Financial aid is offered assuming you will be enrolled as a full-time student. Undergraduates must pass an average of 12 units and graduate students must pass an average of 8 units for each quarter they enroll. Changes in enrollment status can affect current and future financial aid eligibility. Financial aid recipients must make Satisfactory Academic Progress in order to continue receiving financial aid.

Satisfactory Academic Progress:
The requirements for satisfactory academic progress differ for undergraduate and graduate students in certain categories (such as those enrolled under an "approved deficit load" or new students admitted under the "special action" admissions procedures).
The basic standards are listed below on the chart.

Warning Status:

  • Warning status means that you have not passed a satisfactory number of units in a particular quarter or academic year. Aid is not reduced or withheld while on warning. However, if you are already on warning status from a prior academic year, you do not get a second warning. You will be placed on suspension status if you do not pass the minimum number of units for satisfactory progress.

Suspension Status:

  • Suspension status means that you failed to pass a minimum number of units in an academic year, and that your financial aid will be withheld for a minimum of one calendar year from the end of the quarter in which you were placed on suspension. Students may appeal their suspension status by completing and submitting the “Satisfactory Progress Appeal Form” located under the Forms Tab on the left. If your appeal is approved, your aid eligibility will be reinstated, however, you will be placed on Warning status.
