1. How do I apply for Financial Aid for EAP?

Students planning to attend an EAP Program while enrolled at UCSB in the
2008-2009 academic year should file a FAFSA by the priority deadline, March
2, 2008. Once we receive the FAFSA, you may be required to submit additional
information to our office. If selected for this verification process, you
must return all documents as soon as possible and write EAP on the top of each
form if it’s not already pre-populated. Your file will be evaluated once all
documents are received and complete.
2. How does the Financial Aid Office know that I am an EAP student?

The EAP office will provide the Financial Aid Office with a list of EAP
participants.
3. When will I receive my Financial Aid package?

Your Financial Aid package will be available once the budget for your EAP
program has been determined and your FAFSA has been processed by the
Financial Aid Office. Your package will be adjusted according to your
EAP budget. After you are packaged, you will receive an email notification,
notifying you that your award is available to be viewed on our website.
We will make every attempt to have your award available well before your
departure date.
4. How does the Financial Aid disbursement work?

The Financial Aid office will notify the University Wide EAP Office (UOEAP)
of the financial aid awarded to the student. Those awards committed by the
Financial Aid Office will be credited to the student’s UOEAP account.
UOEAP Program Fees are deducted from the student’s financial aid and if
there is a remaining credit balance, the money is disbursed to the student
in one payment or a series of payments by the UOEAP office. For more
information regarding disbursements, please visit the UOEAP website at
http://www.eap.ucop.edu.
Disbursements can be automatically deposited in an account that a student
designates to UOEAP or a check will be sent to a U.S. address indicated
on the EAP Financial Address form.
5. Do my grants transfer to my EAP program?

Yes, all of the grants for which you are eligible for can be used to pay for
your EAP expenses, including Cal Grant, Pell Grant, University Grant, SEOG Grant
and Regents/Chancellors Scholar awards.
6. What happens to my work-study funds while I am abroad?

Work-study funds will automatically be turned into additional loan eligibility.
7. What are the steps to complete promissory note and entrance counseling
interview for Direct Loans (Subsidized, Unsubsidized and Plus Loans)?
8. What are the steps to complete the Perkins promissory note
and Student Loan Questionnaire?

The Perkins promissory note must be completed, signed and returned to the
financial aid office before the loan can be disbursed. The Student Loan
Questionnaire is done online only. You will need to login to “My Aid Status”
at
https://www.finaid.ucsb.edu/AidStatus/index.asp
and proceed to Tab 5.
9. Are there any scholarships available for EAP students?

EAP scholarship funds are provided by the Office of the President directly to
the UCSB Financial Aid Office and are awarded to eligible EAP financial aid
recipients based on need. These awards are applied by the Financial Aid
Office; no application is necessary.

10. What is a visa letter and why do I need one?

Some students need to show proof of financial support in order to receive a visa
to study abroad. We have a visa letter request form in our office that can be
filled out to request that a letter be issued to you.
11. Should I complete the Power of Attorney form?

Yes. EAP students are strongly encouraged to arrange for a relative or another
responsible party to have Power of Attorney while they are abroad. This
arrangement cannot be established once the student is abroad, as it requires
notarization. The person assigned Power of Attorney has the authority to
conduct financial transactions in your place while you are abroad.
